Trailer Analysis

Whilst looking a trailers which portray affairs, a common transition used to depict the affair was 'fade to black' this was very effective as it almost confined the mystery in their actions and made the affair look more secretive and sophisticated, in our trailer we will be using fade to black as it will give that scene more sophistication as it could be soon a comedic way because it is unbelievable, the trailers also used fast paste cuts to fade to black to speed the scene up and to make it look more serious, we will be using this in are trailer.

This trailer uses fast paste fade to blacks which will make the audience focus on the scene more as it is harder to discern exactly what is happening. Especially if the relationship between the two characters is a mystery, there is only so much the narrative revealed about the characters the only enigma codes revealed where about the affair. This was effective regarding this trailer as it will hook the audience making them think what else happens? And how exactly did this relationship develop?

This trailer is very successful in illustrating a teacher and students affair as they use interesting media language throughout the narrative, the high key lighting used to show the happiness in the friendship and then the low key lighting and dark mise en scence to show the developing affair and fast cut fade to blacks to show the powerful impact of the affair, i think the diegetic sound used was very effective as it made the affair more epic.

New Trailer

After improving the draft this was the end result which we were very happy with.

This was our first draft, the improved version above.

New Narrative

With our new storyline implemented, it was vital that we compose a draft of what this trailer would look like, quite simply the narrative has been modified so it directly addressees the over 24 audience, in the beginning of the trailer we question their integrity asking them questions they think they know the answer to, which is do they really know who their children are talking to? With the increasing use of social networking.

it is becoming impossible for parents to control who their children talk to and we think this idea will appeal to 16-24 audience because of school based narrative in the beginning, and possibly because they can appeal to the problems the character is facing. Our idea is controversial and very interesting because it raises issues about a child's safety at school, and allows that older audience to think carefully about the types of relationships their students could be building with teachers, and how teachers are responding to their behaviour.

Progress Report

We have now changed the storyboard slightly which will be included in our film and we just need to make sure they are appropriate and well done in order to allow the scenes to be to a high quality.
The next step is to look at these scenes and start filming these shots and to create the trailer by adding them all in and starting the editing process.

Opening Draft

What went well
We attempted to use are footage and created an introduction to engage audiences, The beginning music was integrated carefully and accurately, and we were successful in hiding the females identity.
Even better if
If you could hear the bullies voice whilst he was attacking the character it would have been clearer to understand, and clearer to hear, we attempted to make the audiences laugh using humour.
Improvements
Firstly, more shots are needed of the female walking in different angles, to make it easier for audiences to focus on her rather then focusing on the scenery of the school, we must make sure that there is not litter in any of the scenes whilst recording, we must be very careful with detail ensuring that every thing that is captured in the scene is perfect, if it is not more attention will be drawn to the imperfection of the scene making it easier for audiences to lose focus. We need to research effective comedy a scene, especially bullying, as that scene was unsuccessful in making audiences laugh, that scene has to be funny so it builds suspense to the following comedic act. In addition we need to make sure that once the female walks into the common room that its tidy and also that the right music is played to set the theme, at the moment because of lack of footage it was harder to determine the theme or the mood set by the action of characters as we didn’t have the best possible footage. I think these improvements are realistic and we will be able to achieve them, however, I do not think they will be accomplished before the half term due to difficulties with shooting.

Report

Come Die With Me
Report
Looking at the feedback it is ideal to improve the criticisms we got in order to maximise the effect of the production. We learnt looking back at the film that there were various things we needed to change in order to create a good quality production.
Cinematography
For cinematography we received good comments which consisted of good camera movements, pan demonstrated when the protagonist was walking up the stairs this suggests that the camera movement was good and this was a consistent feedback throughout the class. The type of camera angle we have used is fairly good as one of the groups objectives was to make the protagonist anonymous at the beginning of the trailer and this is done fairly well in order to engage the audience as the audience want to find out who the character is the camera angle is good to keep interest from the audience. There were some good quality shots suggested by the class which is great for the group as it suggests the group are able to capture important scenes.

In contrast to this the consistent factor which affected the good quality shots was lighting and filming into the lights takes the attention of the characters and their props and clothes, this makes the production seem poor. Some of the camera shot were blurry which reinforces a bad production and this needs to be addressed by the group. This could be due to the poor camera movement as the camera is not motionless. Another down fall was the attention to detail as a group we want the audience to focus on the protagonist however the background is far greater and the protagonist comes out of zoom therefore the attention from the protagonist is drawn away which not ideal.

Mis en scene
There was only one character therefore this allows the audience to stay focused on the character. The clothing used was also good high heels suggests dominance being taller just she is the protagonist which is true and she has status and this inspires others to want to be like her. The setting of using a school allows the audience to know who is going to be involved in the film and the audience like knowing what is going to happen. The use of a school allows people to identify with the characters as they are in similar situations studying at school.

The drawbacks of mis en scene, this is clearly not shown therefore as a group need to show in more detail the aspects of mis en scene. More suggestions have been made in order to make mis en scene more visible examples are props such as nail file, lipsticks and hand bags. There are other props in the scene which should not be in the shot this consists of litter and bags on the floor.

Lighting
The good comments for lighting consist of bright “lime light” this suggests attention seeking this is good as the light allows the audience to notify who the dominant characters are. On the protagonist who tells the audience the protagonist is important and popular. She inspires people to follow in her footsteps.

The lighting is to bring in some scenes this draws the attention away from the audience furthermore it makes it less clear to see the actors as the high key lighting creates a silhouette as a result this makes it difficult to see the actors. The lighting in some scenes is out of balance and over powers because it is too bright again making it difficult to the actor’s expressions. Also the group filmed towards the light making it difficult to pick out expressions and other important props.

Sound
The song which is chosen as it links to one of the selected genres comedy, the sound is clear an allows the audience to hear it easily. The song that is also used it good as it makes the audience anxious to find out who the main protagonist is. The song also reiterates this which keeps the audience engaged.

There are no diegetic sound therefore it does not create a variety. We should consider a wider range of more music in order to target a create audience by using a particular music the audience may like. The scenes next time could include some dialogue to keep the audience engaged.

Conventions matching audience
The audience are able to connect with the film as the film genre is a hybrid of genres and contains comedy we have many to feature a seen in order to create humour. From the bully being put in the bin, and when the protagonist says strong. However to some people it is not clear and they find it difficult to see the comedy element, we now need to show thriller in order to fulfil that side of the genre.

This is a filming sheet that we have created to monitor are progress while we film, at the moment we are doing very poorly because there are many scenes we still have not filmed, in addition most of the footage we have requires thorough improvements, which means we will have to reshoot, a lot of the footage, after having are material refined by Mr. Bush and our classmates we can see that there is a lot of work we have to do, and hopefully we can get it done before the half term.

Deaths

These are all deaths which have been taken from different movies, which we are going to use in our trailer, we have decided that there are going to be four deaths, all based upon low key lighting, which these extracts have illustrated very well. Underneath each extract will be the location we have designated for the death and the character that is going to die.

Alysia will die here, and will be murdered in Jordan's bathroom as she is putting her make up on.
Audriana will die this way in Jordan's living room, we will slightly change the scene to make it more original.
We have not decided who will die this way, we think the shots used are very interesting and the theory interesting, as this is a characters room a place were they expect to find peacefulness and security, whereas here she is being attacked, it juxtaposes our original intentions of the security ones room should over.

This will be the third death in the movie, Ben will die this way, we are hoping to mimic this death precisely, as we believe its a very interesting way to die, and very mysterious, as the murderer or attacker may be relying upon supernatural help as that is the theme which is created through this death.

futher music selection

This song could also be used at the beginning of the trailer "who's that chick" rihanna and david guetta. this song could be used as the words who's that chicks referes to the protagonist at the beginning of the trailer walking up the stairs and she is left annoymous and as the audience want to know who is walking up the stairs the song is also used to reinforces this.

First Scene (Drafts)

Check it out was the original song we wanted to use, as we believed it would be a trendy and fashionable way to introduce the protagonist, the main improvements would be allowing the actor to listen to the song whilst they are walking so they can be in beat, we could tilt the camera slightly smoother, so less attention is drawn to the tilt.

Whose that girl is an alternative song we used, which keeps the audience in suspense as they are anxious to see 'who this girl is'. In order for us to pull this of accurately we must make sure that the protagonist torso is hidden and slowly tilt the camera higher until her whole body or at least her face is shown, i personally prefer this soundtrack, but the grip will do carefully deliberation as to which one we want to use.

Trailer Analysis (Murders In Shadows)

These trailers have been selected for an analysis due to low key lighting used to build up more suspense towards the death scenes.
Don't be afraid of the dark
This trailer engages audiences by building suspense using a variety of long scenes to have the audience waiting, unexpected to what will happen. Low key lighting is used in this trailer, to hide the villains identity, and to provide a more scary atmosphere. The one key scene is were a character is seen holding a flash light, which is her only prop in the scene and only source of light, which works successful and creates suspense as we rely purely on her flash light to secure image of the source of evil. This trailer also uses, big bold fonts to introduce each scene which builds more suspense as we as an audience, must now wait to what the trailer is going to show us about 'fear' or about 'darkness'.

The Massacre In Woodland Heights
This trailers murderer/villain also relied on low key lighting, to make the demonic villain look scarier. timing was also used to build suspense as their was at least a 5-7 second gap for the next scene to fully commence. I definitely believe that slow murderers, are the most effective because it will require the audience to pay more attention, and focus more carefully. towards the end of the trailer there was a scene which we will use in  are trailer which is when the murderer comes behind the character in the car and slashed their neck but cuts the scene to make the illusion of them being attacked, and because it was dark it made it even harder to examine the distorted scene, because the lights will be out and we will only be relying on a secondary source of light for the murderess we hope to achieve this effect.

Sumbal
She is very smart very edgy, and a very cautious character, its very hard for her to maintain herself when trouble occurs.
